Laura New is an Australian-born actor, writer, and director based in New York, working across film, television, and theatre. A graduate of the Atlantic Theater Company, Laura’s work is marked by emotional depth, physical precision, and a lifelong dedication to storytelling.

On screen, she recently appeared in Downtown Owl, directed by Hamish Linklater and Lily Rabe, and guest-starred on Nickelodeon’s Erin & Aaron. Her credits also include Sin City Saints (Yahoo), You Got This (ABC), and indie features such as Andromeda, Candy & Dan, and The Red Shoes (The Next Step) on Apple TV.

On stage, Laura has performed Off-Broadway in Only Castles Burning and Dust of the World at HB Playwrights Theatre, and appeared in The Last Days of Judas Iscariot with Atlantic Theater Company. She was recently selected by SAG-AFTRA to perform in the prestigious F. Murray Abraham Masterclass at the Robin Williams Center.

Before transitioning to acting and directing, Laura built an acclaimed international career as a dancer. Laura’s artistic foundation was built through early performances at the Australian Theatre for Young People. She went on to study theater at the University of New South Wales, training at the prestigious NIDA before moving to Los Angeles to further her career. In the US she's appeared on The Voice, Dancing with the Stars, Disneys Shake it up, and was a finalist on America’s Got Talent with Freelusion. Her dance credits include touring and performing with Christina Aguilera, Pitbull, Pharrell, LMFAO, New Kids on the Block, and the Black Eyed Peas. She was also a member of the pop group BG5, produced by Rock Mafia, which toured internationally and reached the Billboard Dance Charts with their single “Scratch.”

Laura sold her first screenplay, The Merry Mix-Up, to Hallmark and is currently in post-production on America, her directorial debut short film, which she also wrote.

The film explores resilience, survival, and the human cost of the American dream, themes central to her creative voice.


As an Atlantic Theatre Company alum, Laura’s approach to directing is deeply rooted in character-driven storytelling and authenticity. Whether behind the camera or in front, she is committed to creating work that is both emotionally impactful and socially relevant.

From the stage of the Sydney Opera House to the theatre driven streets of New York City, Laura continues to bridge her roots in acting, wrirting and directing with her passion for performance and storytelling, creating work that celebrates vulnerability, strength, and connection.
